Wind Swept Lady is a Bluewater boat, and I kind of like the idea of returning her to her native waters.

I picked her up in Chesapeake Bay, shipped her 5 years ago to Chicago.

Now, in Michigan City IN.

She is absolutely seaworthy and very easy to handle.

Get her under a light breeze and properly trimmed out, you do not need to touch the helm!

I was stunned when I first saw how pretty she was in the pics sent to me by the previous owner.

Within weeks I was flying out of Chicago to Baltimore in January 04.

I coordinated with Steve Sanders. a surveyor to meet us out there.

Steve Sanders had already surveyed the boat back in 2001, and because of his familiarity felt Steve would be an excellent surveyor for the job.

We took inventory of the boat’s condition in freezing cold weather conditions (so we could not start the boat – another reason for hiring Steve).

The survey went well, and that ended my only real objections.

I happily agreed to a down payment.

I can’t remember if I did an escrow arrangement (possibly I did) and then arranged to have her shipped to Chicago.

The logistics of shipping Wind Swept Lady (previously named Sea Quester) was the most challenging of the arrangements to be made.

I found a guy who ran up and down the east coast with occasional trips to the Midwest.

Finally, he squeezed me into one of his Midwest trips.

At the time, the cost to ship her from Baltimore to Chicago was roughly $2400.

Diesel fuel suddenly became expensive between the time of estimate and time of delivery.

I paid an additional $300 fuel surcharge.

Fuel prices today are roughly where they were in 2004, and with a lot of truckers being sidelined by the economy, I would imagine it will be a lot easier to arrange and negotiate delivery than it was for me back in 2004.

Heck, a trucker might even want to take up sailing this year. 1 Engine make, HP, & # of hrs?
